Our 12-month seller guarantee
Good tech deserves a second life.
You deserve proper backing.
At Second Life, we stand behind the technology we sell. Most of our products include a 12-month seller guarantee from the date of delivery, covering qualifying faults in materials, workmanship and functionality.
There are just two product categories that don't include this additional guarantee: power supplies and graphics cards.
We believe you should know exactly what's covered before you buy. No confusing promises. No hidden surprises. No complicated language. No mystery about who you're dealing with. Just clear terms and a real team you can contact.

What's covered?
Our 12-month seller guarantee applies to products sold by Second Life, excluding power supplies and graphics cards.
For covered products, the guarantee protects against:
- Failure caused by defects in materials or workmanship.
- The product ceasing to function as described in its original listing, subject to the exclusions below.
The guarantee runs for 12 months from the date of delivery and applies to the original purchaser and original item.
Products without the additional guarantee
Power supplies and graphics cards do not include our voluntary 12-month seller guarantee. These products are still tested and described according to our normal quality procedures, and our published returns policy and your statutory consumer rights continue to apply.
What's not covered?
Refurbished technology has already had a previous life. Our guarantee protects against qualifying faults, but it isn't insurance against every type of damage or normal wear.
The following are excluded from the additional guarantee:
Batteries and consumable wear
Batteries are consumable components whose capacity naturally reduces with use. Battery capacity degradation and normal battery wear are not covered by our additional seller guarantee.
Where applicable, we test battery health and disclose its condition when listing the product.
Accidental damage
Damage caused by drops, impacts, cracked screens, liquid spills or other accidents.
Misuse or neglect
Damage arising from improper use, incorrect power supplies, unsuitable operating conditions or poor storage.
Unauthorised repairs or modifications
Damage caused by repairs, upgrades or modifications carried out without our authorisation.
Software and configuration
Problems caused by software, drivers, firmware, operating system updates or user configuration rather than a covered hardware fault.
Normal cosmetic wear
Scratches, marks, worn keycaps, rubber feet and other cosmetic deterioration that does not affect functionality.
Previously disclosed limitations
Specific faults, cosmetic damage or functional limitations clearly disclosed in the original product listing, including those identified on Outlet-grade products.
Data loss
Loss of files, applications or other stored information. Please back up your data before returning equipment.
These exclusions relate to our additional seller guarantee. They do not remove or restrict your statutory consumer rights, including your rights where goods were faulty or not as described when supplied.
What happens if something goes wrong?
We stand behind the technology we sell. And if something goes wrong, you deserve to know what how we'll help you.
For products covered by our 12-month seller guarantee, here's how we put things right when a qualifying fault develops.
1. Within the first 30 days
If your product develops a covered fault, you can choose:
- A full refund
- A repair
- A replacement
The choice is yours, subject to the availability and practicality of the remedy.
2. After 30 days
You can request a repair or replacement.
You tell us which you'd prefer. We'll honour that choice unless it's impossible or disproportionately costly compared with the alternative.
We'll carry out repairs or replacements at no cost to you, within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience.
3. If a repair or replacement doesn't resolve the problem
If a repair or replacement fails to resolve a qualifying fault, or cannot be completed within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience, you may be entitled to a refund.
Where your final right to reject is exercised within the first six months, a full refund will normally apply.
After six months, a refund may be reduced to reflect the use you've had from the product, where permitted by law.
4. Your guarantee continues
If we repair or replace your product under our seller guarantee, the original guarantee remains valid for the rest of its 12-month period.
A repair or replacement does not restart the guarantee period.
Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected, including any rights that continue beyond the guarantee period.
Where a fault is confirmed as covered by our guarantee, we'll cover the necessary return carriage costs.
Need to make a claim?
1. Get in touch
Contact us within the guarantee period through the marketplace you bought from, or through the contact form on our website, with your order number and a description of the fault.
2. We'll review the problem
We aim to respond within two working days. We may ask for photographs or suggest a few checks to help identify the fault.
3. We'll arrange a return if needed
Where a return is appropriate, we'll provide a returns reference and instructions. Please don't send equipment back until we've issued the returns reference.
4. We'll assess the product
Our team will inspect and test the returned equipment, explain the findings and confirm the available resolution. For a confirmed guarantee claim, return carriage is at our expense.
If the fault is not covered by the additional guarantee, we'll explain why and discuss any available options. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
What about ordinary returns?
Our seller guarantee deals with qualifying faults.
Our separate returns policy covers change-of-mind returns, incorrect items and other return situations. You can read the applicable conditions, time limits and return-postage arrangements here:

Your statutory rights
Our seller guarantee is provided in addition to your statutory consumer rights.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods supplied to consumers must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, taking account of their condition and other relevant circumstances.
These rights apply to refurbished and second-hand products, including batteries, power supplies and graphics cards.
Our guarantee terms and exclusions do not replace, limit or remove those rights
